#31. Minimalism, Sustainability, and a Fresh Start - In Life and Business

Gepubliceerd op 30 maart 2025 om 07:00

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sorting through my belongings, both in Oslo and at my home in the Netherlands. With a new tenant moving in soon, it’s time to clear out, sell what I no longer need, and donate items to give them a second life. Since moving to Norway, I’ve naturally embraced more color in my wardrobe, letting go of the all-too-familiar black that once dominated my closet. Books and papers have been sorted, and surplus supplies are ready to be sold.

Letting Go: A Journey Towards Less

What started as a practical task has turned into something much deeper - a reminder of how liberating it feels to release excess. Letting go isn’t just about making physical space; it’s about creating mental clarity and emotional freedom. With spring arriving, this process feels even more natural. Just like nature renews itself with the changing seasons, I, too, am embracing a fresh start. Spring cleaning is more than just tidying up; it’s about realigning with what truly matters.

Minimalism as a Mindset

Minimalism isn’t just about owning less - it’s about making space for what truly matters. Clutter, whether physical or mental, blocks energy and focus. By simplifying my home, work, and business, I create room for new opportunities, fresh ideas, and greater clarity.

This mindset applies to business too. Unnecessary tools, processes, or projects can slow progress. Streamlining brings efficiency and creativity, allowing me to focus on what truly aligns with my values.

As I declutter, I’m also preparing space for new projects - like finally writing an e-book during my time in the Netherlands. Clearing my surroundings helps clear my mind, making room for creativity and focus.

Sustainability: Choosing Quality Over Quantity

While letting go, I also think about where my things go. Instead of simply discarding items, I focus on giving them a second life. Donating clothes, recycling papers, and selling useful supplies rather than letting them go to waste. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s an intentional practice of making choices that respect resources, people, and the planet.

Creating Space for Growth

Clearing out my belongings isn’t just about making space in my home; it’s about creating space in my life. The same goes for my work. By decluttering, I’m reminded to be mindful about what I take on. Does this project excite me? Does this partnership align with my vision? Does this bring value, or is it just “stuff” taking up space?

Living in the moment is essential. As I reflect on these changes, I want to share a real insight into my process without making it feel like a diary. It’s about being present, observing the shifts in my surroundings and mindset, and embracing the space that comes with letting go.

Minimalism and sustainability aren’t just trends; they are ways to build a more intentional life and business. As I let go of the unnecessary, I find more room for what truly matters: creativity, purpose, and growth.
