This is my last blog before I depart for Antarctica – an adventure I’m incredibly excited about! My journey starts on Sunday, November 3rd, and I’ll be back in December, hopefully with some stunning photos captured under magical lighting conditions.
As I prepare to explore this unique part of the world, I’d love to share some exciting developments focused on the healing power of nature and nature photography. This theme is central to my work, and I hope it inspires you as well.
Harnessing Nature’s Beauty to Heal
In recent months, I’ve been delving deeper into how nature and photography can help us heal from emotional pain and loss. Through my company, Troostkunst (Comfort Art), I use nature photography as a therapeutic tool. Capturing nature’s beauty allows us to see the world – and ourselves – from a different perspective. Photography encourages us to slow down, become mindful of the moment, and give space to our emotions.
In line with this, I’ve been working with René Hogenes to develop programs, like nature grief journeys, which guide individuals toward healing through immersion in nature. To deepen the experience, I’m exploring forest bathing (shinrin yoku), an ancient Japanese practice where you fully immerse yourself in nature. Living near forests where I walk daily, I’ve found this practice deeply calming, and I plan to integrate these personal reflections into my workshops and programs. It’s a powerful way to relieve stress and reconnect with both nature and ourselves.
At the same time, I’ve been invited to write an article on nature photography as therapy for a major magazine, which will be published in February 2025, alongside 6 to 10 of my photos. This invitation affirms that the healing power of nature and photography is gaining recognition, which feels like a significant milestone for my work.
Upon my return from Antarctica, I’ll also be organizing new nature photography workshops in the Oslo area. If you’re interested in joining, feel free to sign up for the priority list via my website. I hope these workshops will help you find peace and connection through the lens of your camera.
Tip: When you’re out in nature, take a moment to truly observe your surroundings—whether walking, photographing, or simply listening to the sounds of the forest. It can be a profound way to find calm and process emotions. How does nature play a healing role in your life? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Quick Updates: What Else is Happening
- Preparations for Antarctica: The excitement is building! My duffel bag, camera gear, and equipment are nearly ready for the journey. Everything needs to be completely spotless – not a single speck of dust is allowed to come with us to pristine Antarctica. I can’t wait to capture the beauty of this untouched landscape. I also scored a second-hand 120-400 mm lens for just €130, including a one-year warranty. A perfect steal for photographing wildlife in Antarctica.
- Abstract Photography in Photo Book: One of my abstract photos has been selected for ☀️ Iris Depassé's upcoming book, which focuses entirely on abstract photography. The book will be released in November, and I feel honored to have my work featured among so many inspiring images.
- Updated Website & Instagram: With help from my mentor Rebeca Hazelnut, an expert in personal branding, I’ve refreshed my website and revamped my "About" page. My Instagram is also getting a makeover, with more personal updates and behind-the-scenes stories. I’m curious to hear what you think!
- What I’m Learning from 1x.com: Photography continues to challenge me, and through the international platform 1x.com, I’ve been refining my editing techniques. Last week, 1x even shared one of my photos on their Facebook page, and I’m quietly proud of that! So far, 20 of my photos have been published on their platform, with 8 receiving awards.
- Workshop for Trailing Spouses: Last week, I participated in a two-day workshop for trailing spouses, which gave me new insights. As a result, I fine-tuned my LinkedIn profile and made some great new connections. Meeting new and interesting people is one of the many unexpected joys of living in Norway.
Until Next Time!
I'm incredibly grateful for the developments over the past few months, with my upcoming trip to Antarctica as one of the highlights of the year. I can't wait to capture the beauty of this untouched wilderness and share its healing power with you. I'll be back in December with new stories and photos!
This year, I’ve laid a strong foundation for my business, and in the coming year, I plan to launch new programs that promote both personal well-being and the well-being of Mother Earth. Until then, see you soon!
